After You
Send It
8 things to do once the quote is out — and before the job starts

Sending the quote is not the end of the process — it's the middle. Most jobs are won in the follow-up. Most tradespeople skip this entirely and then wonder why they don't hear back. Here's how to stay ahead without being pushy.

1
Confirm it arrived
Send a short follow-up message the same day: "Just checking this came through okay — happy to answer any questions." It's polite, it's professional, and it gets your name back in front of them.

2
Follow up after 3-5 days if no response
Silence doesn't mean no. It usually means busy. A gentle "Just following up on the quote I sent — still happy to help if you have any questions" wins jobs that would otherwise go cold.
Most quotes are won on the second or third contact
3
Be ready to answer questions
Customers often have questions before they commit. "Can you do it for less?" or "What if we find problems underneath?" Have calm, confident answers ready. Hesitation loses trust.
4
Don't drop your price unless you mean it
If someone pushes back on price, understand why before you discount. Is it budget? Or are they testing you? Dropping instantly signals you were overpriced. Offer a scope reduction instead: "I could do it without the X for £Y."
5
Get written confirmation when they accept
Even a "yes please" reply to your quote email is written confirmation. Don't start work on a verbal agreement alone. The confirmation protects both parties if anything changes later.
A verbal yes is not a booking. Written is.
6
Collect the deposit before booking
Don't block out your diary until the deposit is in your account. No-shows and last-minute cancellations cost you real money. A deposit makes the booking real for both of you.
7
Send a booking confirmation
Once the deposit is received, send a short confirmation with the date, time, what to expect, and your contact details. It removes anxiety on their side and sets you up as organised and professional.

If they say no — ask why
You don't have to accept rejection silently. "Thank you for letting me know — would you mind telling me why you went with someone else? It helps me improve." The feedback is free, and sometimes they come back later.
